Space Hellas upgrades digital infrastructure to strengthen health services at AHEPA General University Hospital

Space Hellas announces the undertaking of the project "Digital Infrastructure and Services for the Upgrade of the Health Services Offered at the General University Hospital of Thessaloniki (AHEPA)", amounting to a budget of €4,435,425.00 plus VAT. This is a project of strategic importance, which aims at the radical transformation of the digital infrastructure of the Hospital, making it the central core of the health care system in Northern Greece and perfectly aligned with the modern needs of society and international developments.

As part of the project’s overall implementation framework, the initiative is funded by the National Development Program (NDP) 2023–2025 and is included in the Regional Development Program of Central Macedonia 2021–2025.

The project involves upgrading the Data Centre by adopting a Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) architecture, as well as extending and upgrading the local network to a high-speed access network. At the same time, it includes the supply, installation and configuration of system and data security infrastructures, such as perimeter security solutions, secure network access software, DNS protection, and terminal device security, based on modern national and European regulations (NIS2, N 5160/2024). In addition, the project foresees the expansion of the wireless network and the supply of a unified IP communication system.

In the light of homogeneity and compatibility, and with the primary aim of the single level of security that will be universally applied to all systems, Space Hellas chose the Cisco solutions.

In addition, Space Hellas has undertaken the monitoring of the critical infrastructures of AΗEPA on a 24-hour basis, through its Security Operations Center (SOC), providing increased protection from cyber threats linked to the integrity, confidentiality and availability of the Hospital's data. The company will develop security systems according to the international ISO 27001 standards and will ensure the operational continuity of the Hospital, according to the ISO 22301 standard, offering training and support to the staff of the Hospital.

In order to enhance the quality of the health services provided, Space Hellas is extending the existing monitoring systems for environmental, energy and other critical parameters, using an IoT (Internet of Things) network, thus contributing to improving the efficiency and smooth operation of the Hospital's infrastructure.

In addition, “UpToDate”, a state-of-the-art clinical decision-support tool, will be made available to medical and nursing staff to strengthen informed decision-making based on the latest scientific developments in health. AHEPA Hospital goals are to ensure the public's access to modern health services, to upgrade the quality of the services provided while reducing its operational costs. At the same time, it seeks to enhance the security of the Hospital's infrastructure, shielding it against the ever-increasing cyber threats and ensuring the high availability of systems and its operational continuity.
